Archeologists have discovered ancient artifacts on this site including the remarkable Key Marco Cat statue. The extended visit is being made in partnership with the Smithsonian at Marco Island Historical Museum. Other historical markers have been placed around the island to identify the Marco Island Witch Watchtower, Caxambas Clam Colony remnants, island marinas, and other historic sites.

You will find Naples Coastal Shoppes just a few kilometers from the island. They sell designer clothing and shoes as well as books and housewares at a discount price. The Marco Island Center for the Arts features a free gallery and a gift store that sells locally produced art. Naples, which is just a few minutes away, has many shopping spots including Fifth Avenue South Shopping District and Third Street South Shopping Districts.
