Lizzo Weight Loss

If you follow me on instagram, you might have an idea of my adoration of Lizzo, a multitalented singer/rapper/flutist and overall groundbreaking artist. Lizzo has been making quality music for a few years now, but this year with her excellent major label debut album, Cuz I Love You, she came into prominence. Yet with a top ten Billboard debut, a show-stopping Coachella set, with music featured in commercials, film and television, it is baffling to know that when I mention Lizzo, the response is usually… “who?” It is sad but not uncommon for black women’s excellence to be muted by the masses, but Lizzo’s mere existence deserves a celebration.

Lizzo is an artist that represents something that is often erased from the media: the validity of a big, confident, black woman who does things her way. Lizzo sings (preaches) about the importance of self-love, body positivity, independence, feminism and other topics that many artists often trade for a catchy hook or radio-friendly mediocrity. But what is exceptional about Lizzo is her ability to combine those important messages with equally alluring music that lends itself for multiple replays. Lizzo’s body is a body type I see everyday in real life, but not in the media; she uses the word “fat” to describe it. “I honestly feel like there is no such thing as straight. Because fuck boxes, I am too big to be put in one anyway. I am a fat bitch!” The word “fat” has been relegated as an insult in a culture that shames bigger bodies. It is refreshing to see someone bringing positivity to the demonized term.

“I love my body,” Lizzo said. “No matter what angle you shoot at it… my body is just so fucking beautiful all the time. I may talk shit about it sometimes, but fuck. She’s still a bad bitch.” The cover of her debut album Cuz I Love You, is a stunning display of acceptance and body positivity. It is a form of art celebrating a boy type that while beautiful and valid, is often demonized and hidden. The impact Lizzo has on representation is unmeasurable. But aside from her physical attributes, Lizzo is a multi-talented tour-de-force who deserves to be at the top of the charts. Her debut album received widespread acclaim for critics everywhere, including yours truly. Upon first listen, I immediately thought Lizzo’s album was one of the year’s best with incredible lyrics, the catchiest hooks, and a level of cohesiveness and growth that is unmatched in recent music releases.

I am just happy to live in a world where Lizzo is thriving. As a man who has often struggled with self-acceptance, I am pleased to know that an artist like Lizzo is breaking all the rules and making a difference, all while being unapologetically herself. “I am going to fight what I have been marginalized for. I am going to fight for all marginalized people. I have felt excluded my entire life… so my movement is for everyone.”

It is 2019, not knowing Lizzo is no longer an option, listen to the amazing Cuz I Love You in full and here is a list of other Lizzo essentials your playlist is in desperate need of:
