According to the latest cricket news, Pat Cummins’ mother Maria has passed away due to a prolonged illness. After a fight with breast cancer, the mother of Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins passed away. On Friday, Cricket Australia announced the untimely death of Pat Cummins’ mother, Maria. Cummins had left India after the second test to meet his ailing mother who was in palliative care at that time.

“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family, and their friends. The Australian Men’s team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect,” a tweet from Cricket Australia read.
Brendon Jullian and the entire commentary of Fox Sports paid their respects to Maria before the start of the play on Day 3 of the last test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
“Just before we start today, our prayers and thoughts and condolences go out to the Pat Cummins family. His mother Maria passing away,” he said on Friday.
“From everyone at Fox Sports, our hearts and prayers are with Patty and his family at this time,” Cummins’ former teammate and commentator Brad Haddin added.
Before leaving India Cummins felt that he needed to be with the family. He thanked Cricket Australia and his teammates for the overwhelming support.
“I feel I am best being here with my family,” he said in a statement as he departed the India tour in February.
“I appreciate the overwhelming support I have received from Cricket Australia and my teammates. Thanks for your understanding.”
During the second Test between England and New Zealand, Cummins thanked English supporters for their kind homage to his unwell mother. This was just a fortnight ago. In honor of Cummins’ mother, The Barmy Army posted a video of their trumpet player performing “Maria” from West Side Story. Later, the captain showed his mother the video and thanked the English supporters.
“This is amazing The Barmy Army, thank you. Mum loved watching this and felt very touched,” he posted on social media.Steve Smith led the side in his absence during the third test.
