The way that we live our lives is impacting the planet. With small changes to our everyday lives, we can adopt a green lifestyle. After all, caring for the environment is up to all of us.

Did you know that the EPA estimates that more than three-quarters of the trash Americans generate is recyclable? Unfortunately, we’re only recycling at a rate of 28%.

We all need to do our part to “save the earth”. There are many ways we can start living a greener life. Keep reading to learn how.

1. Use Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Most cleaning products contain chemicals that are not environmentally friendly. If you’re using such products, make the switch. Do a little research and learn how to clean with products that are better for you and the environment.

You’ll learn that you don’t need harsh chemicals to sanitize and clean your home.

2. Limit Your Use of Disposable Items

From water bottles to plastic bags, you can make an effort to use fewer disposable items. Get a refillable water bottle. Bring your cloth bags to the store with you. Use reusable bags in place of plastic sandwich and quart or gallon bags.

Use reusable containers rather than plastic wrap or bags.

3. Buy More of Your Food Locally

If you can buy more of your food locally, you’ll not only gain nutritional value in your fruits and vegetables but less waste is created when the food chain is shortened.

How far your food travels matters.

4. Donate Unused Items

Some people do a purge in their closet and fill up multiple trash bags with unwanted clothing. There’s no reason to add those to a landfill.

Many charities accept unwanted clothing and household items to give to the less fortunate or to sell to make money for families in need. Reduce waste by donating rather than trashing.

5. Drive Less

If you live in an area where you can walk, ride a bike, or take public transportation, those are great options to avoid driving and emitting greenhouse gases.

You’ll be helping the planet and your health by getting some extra exercise.

6. Switch to Solar

Do you want a more eco-friendly home? Switching to solar panels allows you to make use of clean, renewable energy. Using the light from the sun to power your home keeps you independent of coal-burning power plants.

Are You Living a Greener Life?

We hear a lot about going green and it doesn’t always have to be on a large scale. You can make little changes at home toward living a greener life. Repurpose, reuse, and recycle instead of throwing away things you no longer need or use. Be less wasteful. Conserve energy.
